Gifted & Talented
The Gifted and Talented (G/T) Program in Perry County is an educational initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing students who exhibit high levels of aptitude or competence in one or more areas, such as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity. These students often require services and educational experiences beyond the standard curriculum to fully develop their abilities.
1. Identification Process - students are typically identified through:
- Standardized tests (i.e. IQ tests, academic achievement tests)
- Teacher recommendations
- Parent/guardian nominations
- Portfolios or performance assessments
2. Program Goals
- Foster critical and creative thinking
- Encourage advanced academic and intellectual growth
- Promote social and emotional development for gifted students
- Support students in pursuing their passions and talents
3. Areas of Giftedness
- Intellectual (general cognitive ability)
- Academic (specific subject strengths like math or language arts)
- Creative (original thinking and problem-solving)
- Leadership
- Visual or performing arts (art, music, dance, drama)
