Welcome to the Gifted and Talented (G/T) page! My name is Sarah Faith Howard. I am currently in my ninth year of teaching. I am a life-long resident of Perry County, as well as a graduate and former G/T student of Chavies Elementary and Buckhorn High School. I am also the mother to a handsome little boy and a musician/vocalist/songwriter in my family's bluegrass gospel band, The Howard Family.
I began my career in education twelve years ago as a K-12 substitute teacher earning my way through college. Upon completion of my teaching degree in 2008, I was hired as a Primary teacher at Willard Elementary where I remained for four years. My favorite memories from those four years include planning thematic units on the Kentucky Derby, Literary Works of Jesse Stuart (A Penny's Worth of Character, Andy Finds a Way, and other short stories from Clearing in the Sky), Christmas in Appalachia (using A is for Appalachia, The Silver Packages, and The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree), Cultural Diversity, The Life of the Presidents, Coat of Many Colors, and our class project of Old Fashioned Pie and Box suppers, as well as my favorite time of day--Literacy Centers. I read and sang with my students daily. In 2012, after completing my Master's degree, I started my career as District Gifted and Talented Itinerant Teacher. I now work with Gifted Education students at each school in the Perry County school district. It is my goal to encourage each of my students to use their gifts/talents to their fullest potential, to motivate them to take those gifts/talents as far as they can, and to be original.
