Dear West Perry Families:
We are honored and humbled to be appointed as Co – Principals of West Perry Elementary and blessed to be the instructional/servant leaders of this new state of the art facility. We are eager and excited to begin what promises to be the BEST year ever. This year is going to be the first of many to exceed all expectations as we provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous and relevant. As your principals, it is important to us that everyone who enters our school, staff, students, parents and community members are excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun and nurturing environment. We recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher and we will foster that by working together, we can make sure your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
It is imperative that our community embraces the idea of doing whatever it takes to ensure the academic growth of our students. As a professional learning community, we are committed to working tirelessly to provide challenging educational opportunities for children each day. To be successful in our learning community, we need your help. You are a special and unique part of our learning community. Collaboration with your child's teacher is a main ingredient to a healthy and successful year. Open communication is vital to ensure a successful home-school partnership throughout the year. Parent involvement is an important aspect of every child's education and is the primary factor in a students' success in school. Respect is the heart of a school community. Our expectation is that everyone models respect at all times.
There are many ways in which you can participate in school. Volunteering to work in the classroom, becoming a classroom mom/dad, chaperoning field trips, becoming a member of our PTO and/or SBDM Council, and assisting with many other activities, are just a few things that you can do to make a difference.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to the West Perry communities. Jody Blaine Campbell, co-principal of West Perry Elementary, has 27 years of experience with the Perry County Public School System. His experience includes 5 years as a high school mathematics teacher, 2 years as an elementary guidance counselor, and the last 20 years as an elementary school principal. Mr. Campbell has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s degree in Elementary Guidance Counseling and his Rank 1 in Middle School Principalship from Eastern Kentucky University.
Mr. Campbell is a former member of the Kentucky Army National Guard. He is a graduate of the Kentucky Military Academy, where he received his commission as an officer. Mr. Campbell was a member of both the Hazard and Jackson guard units when they were the 206th Combat Engineers.
His number one school priority has always been the children and makes all decisions with one question in mind..."what is best for the children." He believes if you take care of the kids everything else falls into place.
Regina Meehan, co-principal of West Perry Elementary, has 24 years of experience. Her first 20 years were with the Whitley County School System in Williamsburg, KY where she served as a primary teacher, assistant principal, principal, Director of Public Relations and Gifted & Talented Coordinator. She has been a part of the Perry County School District for 4 years. She was the principal of Chavies Elementary for two years and an instructional supervisor for the last two years. She has served as a school administrator for eighteen of her twenty four years. She decided to become an administrator based on her strong desire to positively impact an entire school community.
One of the most important aspects of her work at West Perry Elementary will be building strong relationships with students, teachers and families. You’ll find Mrs. Meehan in the hallways, classrooms and on the playground getting to know your child(ren). Her passion has been and always will be educating students. She believes that great schools are the result of great teachers, so her primary objective will be to ensure that every student is receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher at WPE. In order to do this, with that in mind, you can expect that Mrs. Meehan will work diligently with teachers to make sure our students are exposed to curriculum and instruction that is both engaging and challenging. She will have an open door policy and welcome your input and ideas. Mrs. Meehan values knowing our students beyond the classroom and building positive, lasting relationships with each of our families.
As co-Principals, we realize the education of our kids cannot be accomplished without the assistance of parents and the surrounding community. With our students coming from various areas within our boundaries, our school and district will strive to make West Perry Elementary a model school while maintaining a sense of a small school community. We encourage parents and community members to be active participants in the education of our students. The easiest way, however, is to maintain effective lines of communication. We welcome ideas and volunteers both now while we are preparing for the upcoming school year and throughout the year as well. If you have concerns, praises, or would like to volunteer, please feel free to e-mail us:
email@example.com and /or firstname.lastname@example.org.
In closing, when we ALL work together as a learning community and do things with our students' best interest as the focus, we will be a GREAT school! Thanks for the opportunity to serve our GREAT community as we welcome each you to the Warrior Family!
