Welcome to Leatherwood Elementary, Home of the Wildcats! On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students; Congratulations on your school's designation as a 2015-2016 School of Distinction! This designation that, with an overall score of 73.1, Leatherwood Elementary School is among the middle schools that are the very highest-scoring schools in the state-those at the 95th percentile or above. This is an indication that the efforts of teachers, administrators, students and parents are paying off. Again, Congratulations on your outstanding effort. Leatherwood Elementary School is a model for other schools in Kentucky. Keep up the good work. Leatherwood is a great school with dedicated faculty and staff that are committed to serving the Leatherwood community. Leatherwood has a deep tradition of community, dating back decades as coal mining became prosperous in our area. We carry on that tradition by ensuring that your child or children are as successful as possible in all endeavors.
I encourage you to become involved at Leatherwood Elementary, whether it be volunteering, sponsoring a club or activity, or even becoming a member of our school parent/teacher organization. There are numerous ways to be involved in your child’s education.
Monitor your child’s progress! We encourage you to monitor their performance on statewide and district assessments as well as report cards and daily homework. Parents, you are vital to your child’s education. Please attend scheduled conferences throughout the year with your child’s teacher or schedule a conference as needed through the school office.
